Man, I'm showing this thread to my wife. Keep it coming. Feeling good about my $4500 wagon. i would love to have one with 4 matic especially today. My neighbor in her Subaru can scoot all over the place in the snow. Can you retrofit that on? I imagine so. How reliable are the 4 matic systems?

Mine came with a trailer hitch. Pretty cool. i think it was a dealer job or option as the wiring harness in in the spare tire well all nice an neat.

4matic on early stuff is crap. You do not want it.

No USA diesel 4matics, and it takes some parts that are diesel specific. Mine was great, other than a couple of transfer case leaks at around $3500/each, but it was new.

I have no idea how many are still around but I agree that there seem to be quite a few up here in the PNW. I see four or five around Portland routinely.

heres one i looked at today,it needs some tlc but quite intact, shifted well, engine was a bit sluggish probably alda, some cracked seats ,i just couldnt take on a project.

1987 rare Mercedes Benz 300 TD Turbo Diesel Wagon. 7 seats (2 rear facing)

187'500 original miles.
Blue original color, body no dents except left rear quarter damage. Faded paint on the hood.
Good chrome no rust (except in the damaged area)
7 seat interior (tan)
Leather (front seat cushions cracked leather, otherwise good)
Center console with custom (matched) cup holders
Black dashboard without any cracks
Electric sunroof with tilt
Power seats front, fold up armrests front and rear.
Rear seats fold in 2 sections 2 plus 1
Roof rack
5 "mag" wheels (including spare)
Good tires
Central locking
Electric windows
Original AM/FM/Casette radio with electric antenna
Custom car cover included.

ADDITIONAL IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

This car was hit on 1/14/2010 while parked in front of my house. The left rear quarter is crushed and the rear tailgate is dented. The left rear door and tailgate open and close normally. The car is driveable and the stop and blinker lights work fine in the damaged area. All window glass is unbroken and fine. The car has been declared "salvaged" by the insurance company, and I have started the process of changing the title to a "salvage title" and paid the DMV fees.

I will deliver the car within the bay area.

I have been the second owner of this car and have owned it since 1989. I have a complete record of fuel consumption and maintenance plus all maintenance records.

I ran the car on Biodiesel for over a year without any modifications whatsoever and it ran fine on biodiesel.

This is an excellent car for someone who wants to do some bodywork or would want to use it for parts.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to see additional pictures.

I have searched craigslist over and over, Ebay, and autotrader. I found my 300td on craigslist. Paid 3700 for a well maintained car. It even has the #22 head. These cars are rare and that really makes them special.

That is a good price considering the #22 head. Was the rest in good shape?

I've got one...I got it for $4k about 2 years ago. The previous owners were friend and had it since the early 90's. When I got it it had 150,000 miles on it and was pretty well maintained, although a Changeover valve was clogged and I drove it this way for several months before bypassing it. It was around 22 second for 0-60 before I fixed it. I have changed over to synthetic after taking care of a few oil leaks and it runs great. The engine runs like a top on the original #14 head. My Injection Pump however is leaking from the bottom plate.

My interior is good except for the front two seats are pretty worn. It is white, with Palomino MBTex and I have had numerous people wanting to buy it. Plus, being how I am 23, my friend don't think of it as "cool".

Anyhow...I always thought there were 2200 imported into the US...I am looking now for where I saw that.

You can make these wagons look pretty cool if you really want to (hammer look).....with some $$. I've seen some pictures of some really nice ones. Not sure if they are members here

124 estates look good even on tasteful wheels such as Lorinsers.

Mechanically, it is in great condition. 206k miles on it now. All new HVAC system, including the compressor, evap, pressure lines, and condenser. The PO paid 3400 bucks to fix it. Blows very cold. New suspension parts, including the rear struts that go for 400 each. Absolutely no rust. Until I move to Wisconsin this fall!

The only thing that I don't like is that the hood was repainted by a MAACO quality shop. Orange peel galore. I'm in the process of wet sanding it and polishing it out. The central locking system doesn't work and I'm busy looking at wiring diagrams and poking around with a multimeter.

I removed the ALDA (a whole new car now) and replaced all the clear fuel lines, replaced the glows with Bosch plugs. I also replaced all the injector holder seals on the injection pump to stop a nasty leak. Got rid of the chromed 15 holer wheels that were pealing and put some 400E 8 holers on. Much better looking. She runs excellent. Never gets above 83*C and gets 27mpg. Wish my wife would trade in the Suburban for this car, but she likes sitting up high. The kids like the wagon more due to the rear facing seats. I love this car.
