More like surrounded by carbon. Once I got the plugs out, they were all pretty clean.

And as someone already stated, carbon is an insulator and reduces the effectiveness of the plugs and can also cause them to short out. Like most things on these cars, you'll find people who have never done them and never seen a point to doing them, whereas others have noticed huge differences by doing it. Much like using diesel purge. Some say snake oil, some say they can't live without it.

I don't really notice a difference. I'm not upset that I did it. It's so cheap, and once you get used to it, doesn't take that long either. It can only help.

If the bristles on a brush were strong enough to get the carbon off, they'd take it all off before you could get it all the way through and dump it all in the pre-chamber. Not to mention the risk of losing bristles in there. The tools cheap, and cheaper if you borrow one. Don't take short cuts in the combustion chamber.

That's a commonly held misconception. The glow cycle does not end when the starter is engaged; it ends when the key is released from the start position. Longer cranking times translate directly to added GP utilization.
