Accelerator pedal vibration
Everything else seems to be working fine on my '86 300SDL, 91K although I notice a very low level but very annoying vibration that comes through the accelerator pedal at all speeds. It's enough to make your foot itch and ruin a nice drive.
Has anyone ever experienced this and might know the cause and fix? Thanks for the help. Mitch |

First check is motor mounts.

The same thing happened to my parent's 91 420 SEL when it was brand new. Practically had to take apart the whole car to find the source of the vibration. The fix: a bit of steel welded to the pedal to couteract any vibration. A strange dealer fix...

the accelerator pedal by design is supposed to isolate the linkage from itself.
a new pedal is very reasonable and very possibly will make a difference.

My turn to bring back an oldie..............
This just started on my car - 1987 300SDL........ The entire car feels great!!!!!! Steering wheel is steady and firm, suspension feels wonderful, tires are great, transmission never felt better (finally - quarter turn here and there................talk about 'dialed in') - yada - yada - yada............. My right foot feels like it is on a "Magic Fingers Bed" (Age Reminder...) To me - this is not a major issue - but is the SDL trying to tell me something??? Thanks Folks (as always.........) Stephen

The SDL OM603 has a rubber isolator in the linkage at the firewall, not found in 617.xxx engines.
Check to see if the rubber isolator is in place, has not hardened up like a hockey puck, or broken so that there is metal-metal contact. Also be sure that the linkage is free and lubed. Mine did this once in a while, but it usually went away after I pressed the pedal a few times more. Best Regards, Jim |
