Yikes, glad you're okay. Not surprised you'll be okay, it is (was) a Benz after all.

People call me silly for buying old Mercedes tanks, but its pictures like these that make my argument a winning one.
I glad you're okay. Next time wear some gloves so you don't cut your hands on the broken glass.

Wales somewhere?
Did it happen it Wales somewhere?
Glad you came out unscathed. Best of luck. This is one of the reasons that I only drive MBZ now.

That's amazing...and I'm glad you survived it with only a few scratches.
I've read where these W124's are supposed to be very safe cars...seeing is believing. Are you going to get another W124?

I'm not sure about another W124. I know its my own fault for getting a bad example in the first place, but I've had nothing but problems with it. I don't really have the time or energy to be mending a car every weekend nowadays. Also, I hate automatics, and W124's with 5-speeds are quite rare here, I got lucky to find one in the first place, I could be searching for a long time.
Yes it was in Wales, and it is a lovely road, there are plenty to choose from around there.

Be sure to pull the 5 speed and all necessary attachments out so you can recycle.
Glad you are okay.

Glad you made it through essentially unscathed.
People wonder why I don't buy a new, "safe" car with a dozen air bags. Well, if you wear a seatbelt, and drive with the seat in proper position, in an older Mercedes, airbags are optional. Case in point, yours.

Seems like only a freak accident can kill one of these cars. Well maybe lack of proper car can kill one with time.
Anyway, glad the car sacrificed itself to save you. And if they melt her down to make a new Mercedes then Kharma is preserved.

Hmmm, I don't want to sound like a prick but 60mph on a SCW country road at this time of year?
I hope you take this as constructive criticism, and not mickey-taking. Glad you survived. |

You don't sound like a prick, a lot of people have said that to me and I can fully see their point. My only defense is that I was following several other cars doing the same speed, none of which had any problems, so I assumed it had been well gritted and was ice free.

Something like that happened to me, overcompensated trying to avoid a deer that stepped out in front of me at 90mph on a dark interstate. I had my right hand in a bag of granola at the time. Clipped the deer on the driver's side, car went into a sideways skid, came to rest in the grassy median on its right side. Zero damage to the right side! Deer took out the driver's headlight & turn signal, and left side body panels had light damage throughout. Trashed a rim as well. I had the car fixed by a man that does sheetmetal work on F15 Eagle fighter jets. Cost was much more than I paid for the car, plus all the sorting I had done beforehand. Just couldn't let it go after that episode, all things considered.

Cheers.
