Will Anyone NOT Use Bio-Diesel?

I was just curious because it seems that there are plenty of SVO naysayers, but each of them seems to advocate the use of Bio-Diesel, so I was wondering if anyone refuses to use bio for whatever reason, assuming ambient temperatures stay above the gel point. And this is transesterified VO, methyl or ethyl esters, bio-diesel, none of this "diesel secret" garbage.

I would, but I want to get my tank cleaned and be prepared to replace any leaky fuel lines/replace them preemptively before I do.

B20 in the tank right now. I run B99 in the summer. Not really cold enough down here for it to gel.

On B99 the engine is notably quieter and the performance loss is noticeable.

the double-negative makes this very confusing:

no, I will not

or

Yes! I will not....???

Look at the poll question. I probably should have made it clearer, but I decided to have the poll after I put up the title.

Financially, I'm not that hard up to use anything but Walmart's diesel in both my rigs.

I bought all my diesels with the intention of running homebrew BD in them and have done that from the beginning.
However, for the last year I have been so busy with the rest of life that brewing has languished and WVO has been accumulating in the shed.
This spring I will start processing again.
I have no qualms about its use, short or long term.
And it smells good!

YES*

* asterisk

WHEN it becomes LOWER in cost than petroleum based fuel.

IF it is blended with at lease a small amount of petroleum diesel.

ONLY if it's ASTM rated REAL biodiesel.

A guy around the corner from me is a Bio diesel supplier, and he runs 123 d's with his wife driving a vw tdi. They all run on Bio, and after I discussed it with him I've run a 50/50 Bio/diesel blend sometimes. Performance seems a bit off though when there is Bio in the tank.

I'll run it at a slight premium ($$) to D2 (usually in blends as that's what's available). ASTM certified is what I buy when I can.

Not interested.

I'm tired of price gouging, whether dino fuel or plant, so I'm not interested in contributing to a higher price fuel.

Further, it will have to match the energy level of dino fuel for me to be interested, I want all of the mileage and power I can get from my diesels and won't give it up to lower power fuel.

I went from 100% D2 to B99 to B20 and now I run B5. The Om 603 is happiest on a low bio level fuel - I get better mpg than on straight D2 I guess due to the higher cetane and the lubricity of B5 over D2. At high bio percentages I lose mpg and I am all about mpg as I do 1000 miles a week!

Yes, but:

Not in the winter. It gets too cold here.

Only commercially produced and sold ASTM spec biodiesel.

Usually B20, though once in a while I'll do a tank of B99 for grins.

How often depends on the price in relation to dead dinosaurs and how often I find myself in Minden, where there's actually a station that sells it.

Until a bio diesel that is not an ester is produced, I will not use it.
This is based on the likelihood of polymerization of the ester under high temperatures and pressures as a competing reaction to combustion.

As motors move to high pressure injection systems, the suitability of the current bio diminishes. A new type of bio that is derived from fully saturated fat/oil and not an ester will be required.

Been running a B40 blend of homebrew and D2 all winter and will be running higher percentages as temps increase until I'm running B100 for the 3 warmest months of summer...

I run B20 when it is convenient and near the price of diesel. I read a study comparing lubricity of various fuels and additives. Even a small amount of bio greatly helps lubricity. Most additives did little to the point I've quit adding Power Service to my diesel ram with the (in)famous VP44.
