Howdy gang,

I would love to attend! If my dog is feeling better by then I will be attending!

Here is some information and maps.

I suggest we meet at the Mount St. Helens Visitor Center on 504 just outside Castle Rock. Use exit 49 off I-5 and follow the signs.

The drive time from Visitor Center to Johnston Ridge Observatory is estimated at 1:15. A bit slower for us 240D drivers.

Suggestions for meeting time would be appreciated. How about 9:00 or 10:00 am?

The pdf map was to large to post.

Jeff

Oh ya,

The initial meet for photos and then a run for the ridge as a group.

We should probably firm up some details.

From what I understand, the best places for photos with the Mt in the background are on the way up to the Ridge at some of the scenic pull outs.

I like the idea of a 10:00 or 11:00 meet up at the Exit(See Mt St Helens Motel below). Everyone would be on their own for breakfast and that would give ample travel time for those traveling longer distances.

It might be a good idea to pick up something for lunch at this time as well.

We then all drive up to the Ridge, do the touristy thing and then meet up again at the picnic area downhill from the Ridge for byo food. That should be about 2:00 or so.

If space allows at the picnic area, we can do a tech session there or back in Castle Rock. There is a huge gravel parking lot just off the freeway at the Mt St Helens Motel. Go to Google Maps, type in Mt St Helens Motel and look at the satelite view. It seems to be the most appropriate spot.

If everyone is OK with that plan, let's shoot for 11:00 at the Mt St Helens Motel parking lot. 1340 Mount Saint Helens Way Northeast, Castle Rock, WA‎ - (360) 274-7721‎. It's a couple blocks East off the freeway. I recommend this spot because the Visitor Center parking lot can get full - especially with nice weather in the forecast.

Anyone Concur?

Sounds like a plan! Are there cookout facilities at the picnic area?

TRAFFIC Warning!

For those of you traveling from up North be aware of the air expo at McChord AFB. The traffic around that area on I-5 could be very bad! The gates open at 8:00am.

I hope to make it, possibly with two 240D's :-)
(a newbie friend may join in...)

I'll check the thread in the morning: if no changes I assume the mtg point is by the motel in Castle Rock, Exit 49.

Fuel note:
For those coming from PDX and points south: Diesel at 2.889 tonight at Astro on Lombard WEST and Interstate. Exit 304B (or so), less than 1/4mi off the I-5 (before the 1st traffic light on the right). Debit/credit's OK, but they ask for your zip code...

See y'all.

Another Thought...

The Mt St Helens Natl Volcanic Monument requires a fee of $8 per person:
http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/04passes/index.shtml#monument

An annual pass is available ($30), and is good for a spouse, children, parents of holder, for many NW Federal Forest trails/campsites/etc. and transferable among family cars:
http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/passespermits/nwfp.shtml

Buy these at (specific) Bi-Marts, REIs, elsewhere
(possibly not in Castle Rock or at the mountain):
http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/passespermits/vendors.php

;-)

Regards,
AK

we`ll be out of here in about an hour heading north. see you there

Fueled up yesterday in Willsonville across from the Costco at a 76, $2.89, the 76 on the other side of the freeway is the same price. cheapest I have seen in the area.

I'm sorry I couldn't make it but on Wed of this week I fell and dislocated my right sholder (3rd time) really badly. No driving until I see the sholder specialist on Tuesday of next week. My arm bone was under my right boob. Ambulance gave me 8 mg of morphine and it didnt even touch the pain. The hospital gave me 2 shots of dilaudid sp? and then a shot of Adivan sp? that did the trick, the doc put the sholder back in the socket and then I stopped breathing. My better half said I had 4 nurses working on me at that point and at that point I started breathing on my own. Six months ago I had a total knee replacement, this has been an interesting year. Hope everyone had a great sunny day.
