Sunroof Gear

This may sound loopy, but if anyone here has a spare sunroof gear (the large one turned directly by the worm gear), I would pay $20 for it. After repairing my sunroof motor, I cinched the clutch locknut too tightly and thereby hosed said gear...geez.

I need one too. The dealer won't sell just the gear; they only supply the whole gearbox & motor assembly for roughly $330. I found a used motor & gearbox off a junker.. guess what? Yep, it was fried too.

I sent one email to Webasto (the sunroof manufacturer) a couple of months ago and got no response. Perhaps more searching would turn up a better address, or even a phone number. They DO have a website.

Someone else on this site had a supplier somewhere that would sell just that gear; I'll search and see if I can find that post. I'd love to get my hands on one made out of a more sturdy material than that crumbly fiber stuff; someone suggested that it was made out of that to reduce noise in the gearbox. As if that really matters when I'm driving an old diesel.

Thanks for the reply, Nathan. Just what I need...competition!

I tried to rebuild the worn teeth on the gear with JB-Weld, and cosmetically, it was a fine job. But when I tested it, the worm gear ate the JB-welded teeth right off. I guess nothing will do but an outright replacement, so I will go salvaging as soon as I can. Perhaps I'll find one for you as well.

I suspect the gear is made out of fiber in order to protect the motor's worm gear(?).

This is the only place I could find the gear.

Now if anyone knows where to get just the little gear that drives the belt in the antenna I'd apreciate it. I just put $80 into getting it working and the little gear fell in half.
