How interchangeable are the Heads on the OM60X series of engine? I'm looking at getting a wagon that needs a head gasket and giving it's head Casting I'm sure the head is cracked too, there's several 6 Series engines (602's 603's like mine etc) I'm sure they wont interchange but I have to ask.

All 603s interchange, however:

The original head on your '87 is not an "inclined injection" head like the later revisions, so either machining is necessary on the replacement head or you will want the injectors and glow-plugs as installed in the newer head and injector fuel lines.
