240d engine switch
I have a '77 240d that seems to have a bullet proof engine, but the body is tired and ugly. I found a '80 240d that has a very nice body and interior. Can I switch the engines will they switch out with no problems? I failed to mention that they both are manual transmission, marual windows. I also have a 300TD wagon, that needs some work, just curious if that engine would switch over. I really dont think there is a chance but thought I would ask.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Just so I get this straight, you want to pull the engine out of a '77 240D and put it in an '80, right? If so, it should be a direct bolt in.
Edit: On rereading your post, you want to put the engine from the 300TD in a 240D, right? That can be done, but it requires a lot more work.

The 240D engine swap is easy, just unbolt the fwd flex disc (leave it on the tranny), unbolt the two 13mm bolts that hold the tranny cross member (leave it on the tranny also) plus the other obvious engine stuff and away you go. An adjustable spreader bar makes life easy when pulling engine and tranny together.
