How do you replace the front rotors of a 96 e300
Does anyone know how to replace the front rotors of a 96 e300?
The book I'm reading show that you only have to remove the torx nut that holds the rotor to the hub. Do you need to remove the hub and the bearing to replace this? |

I'm looking forward to the answer on this one. My 97 e300 needs this done too.

all u need is that nut. The only thing is that they will probably be stuck and you need hit them pretty good with a hammer to get to come off.

The rotors on my truck are built in a similar way and I know that I have to literally pound the crap out of them to get them unstuck - way more than I thought was appropriate.
I used a block of wood to avoid dinging the rotor surface and buffer the hammer blows to some degree,

Thanks for your suggestions guys.
Yep, there is only one torx nut that holds it and years of rust, grime, breakdust combined. I had to soak the hole or slot between the rotor and the hub with wd40 for a good hour and then banged it as hard as I could before it finally separated. This was for the right front rotor. The left one came out easily after soaking it with lubricant.Note to our members if you decide to replace your front pads with aftermarket brakes like Duralast from Autozone, beware of the fit for the brake pad sensor slot. It took me a while to put those in because the slots are quite tight. Also the rear pads that Autozone supplies have round holes for the retaining pins. THEY DO NOT FIT. I was able to get one that matches the original from Pep Boys. |
