95 e300 glow light problem - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

I just got a 1995 E300 D, and am having problems with starting in cold weather. The glow light does not go on at all before starting the car, but comes on after a minute or so of driving and stays on for about a minute (afterglow I assume by reading a few threads). It also idles a little rough until the glow light comes on. My question is, is the "preglow" part of the system not working, or is the preglow, and afterglow two different systems. I am familiar with the older OM617 glow systems, but I have no experience with the newer system. I only see one glow plug relay, but don't know if it is not being told to energize for preglow, but to do so for afterglow. Any ideas where to look and what procedure to do would be greatly appreciated.
