You mean the AC compressor is leaking freon oil?

Im sure you meant the turbo. Take some pictures, I cannot picture this in my head.

This is a turbo charger.... The "turbine" (on the exhaust side) drives the "compressor" (on the intake side).

The leak is on the bottom of the compressor housing. It is leaking around one of the bolts/bars on the bottom of the compressor.

I tried to get the camera in there. The DSLR is too big to get in there and I do not have a smaller camera.

Wow...I got lucky on my search....I cannot believe it. This is exactly whats happening to me...I was driving down the road one night and I noticed my alternator dummy light flash a couple of times. Since then I've been losing battery. I found one problem where I was draining due to a short, but after fixing that I was still having power loss. Last night I drove home from about 10 miles away. I went from everything working fine to having absolutely no electrical power when I got home. The headlights completely drained the power.

All my idiot lights fail to come on (this seems to be intermittent, they quit for a couple weeks, but then started working again, now they are out again).

Looks like it's time to pull the voltage regulator and check it out.

Thanks for the complete write up and pics Snookwhaler ! ! !

Well...I replaced the regulator and everything started working as it should...found that my regulator had good brushes, but one of the springs broke so it wouldn't hold the brush up against the shaft of the alternator. It's been working well now for almost a month.....till tonight....

Once again, I got in the car and saw that the idiot lights wouldn't come on pre-start When I cranked the engine, the lights flashed, then the car started and they went out.

I drove 7 miles to get my daughter and by the time I got there my headlights were almost dead. I ended up calling my other daughter to come and meet me so she could follow me with flashers going so I could get home.

I can't believe that the stupid regulator would blow in less than a month, but it's totally possible with the crap that Bosch is putting out these days, but anyone got any other ideas?

Thanks!

I'd check that regulator... Maybe one of the screws came off somehow... or maybe there's a loose wire, or a bad ground. How did you install the new regulator? Didi you go under the car? Did you take the whole alternator off? Some might have came loose in the process of installing that new regulator.

Fuzzball, I agree... I would pull and check the regulator again. Best to pull the alternator to do it right and line everything up properly. It is a PITA, but it will no doubt be right.

You could be experiencing the "stuck brush" problem. I found one of my old brushes was getting hung up in the bore (cocked sideways).

Keep us posted.

Thanks for the time on the phone Roy, it was much appreciated.

I'll be checking that regulator tomorrow to see if I got the short one instead of the long one and I'll let everyone know.

Well, I called Phil and got the part number...I believe I have the right one based upon our conversation, but I'll be pulling the existing one soon.

Updates to follow!
