CAN YOU SWAP SEATS FROM A 1991 42OSEL TO A 85 300SD??

Hey guys I have a 1985 300sd that I just bought, it has hideously worn seats both back and front. I just went to my local dismantler and found a wrecked 1991 420sel with 107k miles that looks like it was garaged all it life. The interior is in flawless condition and the seats are super nice, and they match the beige color of mine. So my question is can I swap both front electric seats and rear seats to my 85 300sd? And if I can, will it just be a bolt-them/plug-them in type of job, or will I have to do a bunch of electrical mods? If anyone has any advice on this I'll be truly greatful....thanks!

Should bolt right in. May be a small difference if donor car has reclining rear seat. Front seat switches, controller etc., are different. Consider updating with the complete system or transferring seat covers to old seats. The professional version of alldata has the wiring diagrams.

I swapped the seats (all of them) from a 1991 350SDL into my 1982 300SD. Only mods necessary was to convert the power memory seats to power-non-memory. Wasn't all that big of a deal....

If you don't want to have to mess with the memory and such, KEEP your existing seat frame and put the new seats on your OLD frame. I don't mean take the seat covers off.....I mean there are like 6 screws that hold the seat onto the bottom of the frame.

YES!!!!

Please see my threads on the subject....you couldn't do it any worse than I did if you tried.....I need a frame and motors now.....STILL DAW. Can you believe it?

If you do what DAW suggests, and I implore then the worst case scenario is some wiring issues that shouldn't be too difficult to sort or have sorted.

The seats I pulled from an sel and put into my SD were an unbelievable upgrade to my driving comfort. (For the one drive I took with them before I tried to be MR DIY.)

I put the front seats from an E320 into my 240TD. The front bolt holes lined right up, the rears I had to make a simple bracket. I still haven't hooked up the wiring for the power functions. Search my posts for the thread I posted with pictures.

Hey thanks for all the inputs ...very helpful. So first with the 420sel, I unbolt the 4 main screws that hold the seat to the car? Then unbolt the seat from its original 420sel motors? Then take my 300SD seat out, unbolt the seat from the motors, and install the new seat right into the original motor setup and bolt it back into my car? Sorry if I sound confusing I'm just an amateur DIY

I think it's more of unbolting the seats from the frame AND motors...different then removing the motors, but yes I think you got it.

I have another question..........How do you remove the back-support from the rear seat? I always wondered about that one.

Two 8 or 10mm bolts hold it at the bottom, then you just lift it up and over the tabs holding it in place.

Oh alright, thanks alot guys,,, your all VERY helpful here, don't know what I would have done with out all your help to help me sort this great cars. Hopefully I'll get it done over this weekend. I also have to do the flex discs that I think are on their way out as the car makes a horrible clunking noise when I decelerate and approach 15-10mph.. then ..CLUNK ...seems like its coming from the rear. It also does it when it shifts from 2 to 3rd but a little less noisy, still seems to come from the rear, any of you have/had this problem before?
