Snow pile in my hatch?
weird snowy morning. I couldn't open the driver's side door because it was frozen, so i opened up the hatch to the wagon to crawl in and to my amazement there was a mound of snow inside!! I guess i need to replace the seal huh??

The Case of the Mysterious Mound
Ice I would understand but, snow? Do you think the mound of snow fell in when you opened the rear hatch? Where exactly was the snow?

No, it didn't fall in. It was near the bottom of the gate on the inside piled about 3 inches high. Looked like how snow drift looks. The snow came down pretty good last night and the wind was howling. The hatch seemed closed all the way, but I don't know for sure. I couldn't imagine this much snow sneaking past a bad seal. Weird.

if it happened its not impossible. I know it sounds impossible, and that the look of surprise i had on my face when i opened the hatch up would have shown that. The door WAS closed down, but all the way? Possibly not locked in position, but i know the door was level with the body of the car. Understand that the snow was practically coming down sideways with 30mph winds, and the rear of my wagon was facing it.
I noticed that the seal on the body is rubber. is there supposed to be one on the door? theres some foam weatherstripping that looks like the PO had installed from like home depot.

It probably needs a new hatch seal...

The hatch itself does not have a seal. Sounds like the seal on the body is bad or there is some kind of misalignment of the hatch to the body. I do know that a full latch on my wagon can be deceiving. Takes a pretty good wang to fully engage. The rear light will stay on if it is not fully latched.
By the way, where is the switch for the rear light? It's location is not obvious. |
