How long is an '83 300SD? Need info for towing.

Hello All,

I have just acquired an '83 300SD and have decided to possibly tow it home rather than drive. I am considering using an enclosed trailer and would like to know the length of the SD to make sure it will fit.

Thanks in advance.

According to the Wikipedia entry on the w126, the first generation long wheelbase four door 126 is 203.1 inches in length. The second gen S_L is 208.x.

I'd consider using a flatbed or dedicated car hauling trailer (not one of those huge truck rigs, just a flat trailer with the lower walls so the doors open) for the simple reason that even if a trailer's long enough, it's not going to fit in one lane if it's wide enough to let you get OUT of the 300SD once you pull it into the trailer.

So I need 17' of clear space in the trailer.

Standard car trailer width is now 8-8.5 feet. My trailer is 8.5 but is in use. I am borrowing a trailer for this task. My friend's trailer is atleast 8'. Getting out of the car isnt an issue. We climb out the door window.

thanks for the info !
