How many leak oil?

Just curious has to how many of the forum members diesels leak oil?

I guess what I'd like to know is..do high mileage Mercedes diesel normally leak a little too or oil leaks unacceptable?

I come from air-cooled Volkswagen background and it seemed they all leak a tiny bit, especially with high miles.

My valve cover gasket was leaking at the back, even with a new seal.

So I used a little RTV on it and it doesn't leak anything when parked.

I don't think either of my diesels leak oil. Other fluids, yes, but not oil. The gasser had a pretty bad oil leak but I think I fixed it.

I think before I drove my car yesterday, it'd been sitting in the same place for the longest time since I've owned it. I just didn't have any reason to drive for about a week. It was nice to look under it and not see any marks on the ground at all.

Front crank seal. Needed new hub and seal.
Front gasket where IP meets block, big O ring.
Oil cap seal starts allowing some through.
PCV vent grommet gets hard, tube gets hard leaks a little.
Turbo is mysteriously a little wet lately, hard to determine where from.
Tranny is moist I think the drain plug gasket on the torque converter should have been refreshed with the tranny oil change, but I didn't. My fault on that one.

I think if you have a leak, it can be fixed. Just takes initiative.

Gaskets shrink and things seap. Each of my two
are at 300K miles. Generally speaking I do not have oil leaks.

But I have fixed things that leak over the years.

None of the leaks were show stoppers, cars ran fine.
I consider it a part of maintenance.

The only car that I have driven that does not leak oil is a 94 LS400. 2nd owner car. The engine and tranny looks dry and clean but it only had 140K on it when I sold it.

All my MBZs leak tiny amount of oil or tranny fluid, don't know where but I 'try' to clean it up and fix it. It is a nuisance but not the end of the world. They all drive good and really cannot complain when they all have 220K minimum each. Some are 330K+. Gasser would be a goner for that kind of mileage.

Not necesarily. When I worked at the junkyard, I saw a W124 260E that had 327,000 miles on it and was at the yard because it had been rolled. I also saw a few Honda, Toyota, Subaru, and Ford Crown Victoria cars with that kind of mileage (and one Chevy Cavalier with 341k).

Those may be the exception than the rule. How can you know for sure that they are the original engines? What I meant is that it is acceptable to me that cars with 200K+ miles to leak a bit of oil.

No oil leaks on my 124. It does push coolant out of a cracked lower radiator neck, but that'll stop once I get back home and put in the new radiator. The delivery valves are also seeping, I guess that technically counts as oil Got the gaskets and washers, just have to get home and do it after I find somebody who has the socket.

My 2 have patches on the outside of the motor that look moist with oil but there are no drips at all. I think as a motor ages & gets a little blowby the pressure in the crank case is positive so if oil can leak it will.

On my E300, I think one of the injection pump covers is leaking and the PCV system plastic has disintegrated allowing condensed oil vapor to seep out all over the valve cover, filling up the injector wells...
