http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/attachments/diesel-discussion/34510d1152366207-83-300sd-transmission-leak-2nd-pump.jpg

Does anyone have any advice on fixing this ??? I got the seals from the dealer and Im gonna start as soon as it gets warm enough to crawl around on the garage floor and the kids will leave me alone long enough.

Do I remove the whole unit - its a tight squeeze in there.
or
Repair it in place ??

Thanks in advance

Repair Leaking Secondary Pump on Transmission

Ok I thought Id give my thoughts and ideas about this repair!! Sorry no pictures my hands were covered in transmission fluid.

1. Dont try and remove the whole housing via the three allen head bolts - it wont come out - something internal ???

2. After removing the spring clip the cover wouldnt come out - I started the car and out it came - along with a lots of trans fluid. Maybe a magnet would have been a better choice.

3. From below it will BE VERY HARD to know if you got all the old o-ring out if it breaks up in pieces like mine did. See #5 below

4. The white teflon ring on the pump end I did replace - it has a to be slotted just right to go ALL the way in - which is WAY past the O- ring you are replacing.

5. I ended up drilling a quarter size hole in the transmission tunnel and using a pick to remove the hard brittle O-ring on the bottom half of the opening... Its not pretty but it worked.

6. Good luck getting the O-ring - the dealer got it wrong three times...

7. Put it all back together - seal the hole in the trans tunnel and check for leaks.

8. Check your fluid level - duh.. it HAS been leaking.

Good luck with this job
