Bilstein shocks on 99 E300 turbodiesel

I am going to replace the shocks on my 99. I haul a decent bit of weight in the trunk on a regular basis. Does it make sense to get the Bilstein heavy dutys in the rear? I do not want to get them in the front because I do not want the stiffer ride.

Will the ride feel unbalanced if I put Bilstein comforts up front with the heavy dutys in the rear?

Has anyone tried the Meyle shocks?

I did exactly that on my '83 300SD. HD Bilsteins in the rear, and regular in front. There was no negative ride difference. I don't know on the W210. I bought my Bilsteins at Auto Zone at the time years ago.

Let us know which direction you go, and how they ride? Thanks.

Edit:
Whoa! Hold the Bessarabians.

IIRC the HD's have always been said to be the equalivent to the OEM Sach/Boge in Bilisteins product lineup. Comforts being softer.

I changed mine to HD's at ~200k. Haven't felt they were as good as the OEM's for last 85K IMO. I'll use OEM next time if i own it long enough to need another set.

Lesson for Me?

TM,

Am I correct in understanding from your reply that Sachs/Boge are OE and both Bilstein products?

('Always under the impression that only Bilsteins were OE)

Thanks!

Terry,

What do you not like about your current HD Bilsteins? Do you have the HD's all the way around?
