I'll muddy the waters a bit. My '81 takes an 1100mm alt belt.
Tightened it today as a matter of fact. Tired of it squealing randomly!

I don't think it matters, 2mm longer or shorter makes zero difference since the adjustment nut can move several cm...

85 uses shorter belts than 82-84, and the nonturbos (81 & before) use one fatter belt instead of two.
The number 1000 is sticking in my head for 85, with 1035 being for 82-84. Edit: nevermind, it's only the 85 300SD for the shorter belt. Last edited by aaa; 02-28-2010 at 07:44 AM. |

I think you're right. It's the "something else" that got me spooked. Some couldn't get the "correct" alternator belt on without removing the pulley or replacing with a longer "wrong" belt. But I think they were 300SDL's or 300TDT's. I just wanted to add 2 belts to a small order to make shipping a smaller dollar percentage cost and keep as spares until spring.
