Body Parts & Years

Group:

I have a question about the interchangeability of body parts between years. So, I have a 95 E300D and I want to know what years I can get the bumpers from that will fit my vehicle correctly. Thoughts?

Appreciated,

Andy

Sorry for the ignorance...can you clarify? Will it matter if it's just a 300-series? Would a 92 model fit?

All 124 front bumpers will fit. If you go with a pre '90, you will have to drill holes for the chrome "horseshoes" in the corners. The other change is that the '94/'95 have a smooth texture impact strip, paints nice and glossy, the earlier ones didn't have a painted impact strip and it is slightly textured.

Yes, a '92 will fit, so will an '86. My daughter has gone through 3 on her '94 (identical to the '95 except for painted wheels), so it currently has an '88 front bumper.

The rear bumper of the '95 has a long impact strip on the side. Earlier models had short impact strips. So if you'll replace the whole bumper, not a problem (perhaps) but if just the impact strip, then get a '95 for the rear.

I forgot that detail on the sedan rear bumper, good catch. Completely interchangeable though, again my daughter's '94, ...

Early W124s (1986, 1987 up to ???) had the outside air temperature sensor at the left corner of the bumper; later models put it near the license plate.

The front hole is there on the early bumpers, so they're interchangeable.
