Are these tumblers interchangeable?
 

I've got a replacement ignition switch/steering lock assembly for my '82 300D. This assembly is from an older W123 and the cap on the back of the switch is different, but I'm told I can swap in the cap from my current assembly.

What I'd like to do is swap in my tumbler, which you can see on the left in the photo below. They look NOT swappable to me. In fact, I'm not seeing that I can even do the ol' paperclip tumbler-remove method on the assembly on the right. :confused: :confused: There isn't an obvious hole or slot like you see at 12 o'clock on the tumbler from my '82, just at the top edge of the first photo below.

Not a tragedy to use a different key... but would be nice not to! :o

What's your Ignition Tumbler Problem?

Whatever it is...I believe this is the Gentleman to call.

(The Local Master Locksmith down here recuts the "Leaves" inside the tumblers
and resets the keys for me.)

The tumbler works great, but I think the problem is in the ignition switch or steering lock. Write up on this thread.

I've been starting my car with a screwdriver and killing it under the hood. Fun times! :rolleyes:

Would that circular piece simply pull out exposing the hole for the paperclip? Just a guess on my part. Maybe contact the person you bought the part from.
