Using Diesel Kleen and TCW3
I'm currently giving my 300D a steady diet of 6 ounces of Diesel Kleen and 6 ounces of TCW3 at every fill up.
My hope is that the added lubricity will extend the life of my injectors and that the added Cetane boost is doing...well, hopefully something beneficial! I am wondering if my additives are really helping anything in reality. What do you guys use in your MB's or what are your general thoughts on my habit? I figure I am spending about a $1.70 per fill for this. Thanks |
Old,
That is exactly my 'recipe'. Think of it as cheap insurance or a cheap placebo. I like adding the two stroke oil. I gives me extra smoke during acceleration. |
RedLine Diesel Fuel Conditioner. Same reasons, ~2.00/tank

Cetane boost, to 55 anyway, is supposed to help with combustion under compression.
I used to add some, but don't anymore. I live a bit north of you too. |
There are probably as many opinions on additives as there are members of this forum. Many who say they are ALL a waste of money, and many who say they notice a difference when some additives are used. Who knows? The only fuel additive I have used that seemed to have a positive effect ( smoother idle, less smoke........) was STP diesel additive in the light blue bottle. I have used it a handfull of times and each time I have used it it worked as advertised........................go figure. I am a bit of a tight wad so I don't use it all the time, maybe once every couple months.

I add iso-Heet for water removal and injector cleaning.
I had a 55 gallon steel fuel tank rust out on my diesel coach and I've been using iso-Heet ever since replacing it. |
i can tell the difference between not using and using Diesel Kleen. I think it helps my little wagon work better

With power service products (diesel kleen, grey and white bottles) I take whatever the back of the bottle says for 100 gallons, divide by 4 since the SDL has a 25 gallon tank, and dump in whatever estimate of that seems to work. I figure an overdose hurts nothing except slightly adding to the cost of the additive. I think the quart bottle lasts me... 4 tanks. I think.

Biodiesel, It increases lubricity because of the problems people are having with ULSD.

Preferably biodiesel with a bit of TCW3. SOmetimes redline, sometimes FP60, sometimes MMO. The key IMO is to keep a rotation. All adds are good at something, poor at something else. They all leave their own residues, etc. All mainstream adds now generally "add lubricity". That is key, IMO, as a good injector cleaner for diesels, or a diesel purge pre-oil change can do a good job, especailly if combined with an italian tune-up.
I do not believe that any adds have real caloric value higher than the parent fuel. So, there is diminishing returns having an OD... worst-case you will induce soft-metal wear due to the adds making it to the bearings. Underdosing is smarter than OD. |
I used to keep a jug of that silver PowerService around for doing fuel filter changes on my 2001.5 Dodge/Cummins. This is the one with the 6spd. NV5600. It is the H.O. motor. The H.O. motor is quite a bit louder than the automatic equipped versions. When I was using the stuff regularly (the stuff in the silver jug) IT DID make a difference in the noise coming from the engine. It was notably quieter. Thats about it though. Eventually I quit using it all together and just used it for filter changes.
Now I just keep a jug of B99 around for the filter changes. |
I actually always prefered rotella dfa

I use Diesel Kleen when I can't get at least B5. If I can get any bio blend I don't feel the need to use anything else...
