BP Diesel Specifications and Info

I came across this flier yesterday while filling up my MB.

The specifications are pretty interesting and they tell me one thing I had wondered...and that is when the winter mixing starts and stops.

I was surprised though that the cloud point difference between winter and summer mixes is only 5F. Doesn't sound like much.

Is the lubricity number of 520 good....bad?

ULSD Lubricity Index

The Key sentence from the report:
"The U.S. standard for diesel fuel says a commercially available diesel fuel should produce a wear scar of no greater than 520 microns. The Engine Manufacturers Association had requested a standard of a wear scar no greater than 460 microns, typical of the pre-ULSD fuels. Most experts agree that a 520 micron standard is adequate, but also that the lower the wear scar the better."

Our Petroleum Jobber/Retailer (Colonial Oil/Enmark) added 5% BioDiesel [Palm Oil Extraction]
to ALL ULSD in Georgia,South Carolina beginning on May 15,2009,to make up for the lack of Lubricity in ULSD.

There can be a huge diversity of product specs, depending upon processing, crurde it was derived from, etc. Im sure someplace in there it is a "typical" rating... Every batch is different. Most BP diesel doesnt even come from BP refineries!

More than good, your pump is lubed by oil.

I was thinking more about the injectors.
