Peter,

The mech is a cool guy. Charged me $800 to R&R the turbo. I had him change shocks, service the transmission, install power mirror (which i had), fix vacum, synethic oil, replace cover on front tow hook. All that for $1,700 bucks.

He is getting a kick out of my trying to get all up to speed. The car is such a hoot to drive. My wife just took it to Charleston. I have a friend who has 1998 420 with 29,000 miles. It like new. He is asking $28,000. Is that a good deal?

Thanks again.

Regards, Mike

Mike:

You got a good deal on the turbo and other work -- I do all my own as I couldn't afford the car otherwise!

The 420 doesn't sound bad to me -- 4 year old MB 420 for half price?

I know what you mean about the 350, too -- drives almost like a gasoline engined car with the milage of a diesel!

Peter

Mike:

Michelin tires, you won't go wrong. Pirellis are great too, but wear every so fast! Otherwise, top of the line Firestone are good, same goes for Goodyear.

Amsoil is fine, but rather pricey. Watch Mobil products -- I've heard things about quality recently that I don't like (having to do with substituting lower quality dino components for some of the synthetics -- paying for the Exxon Mobil merger at our expense rather than theirs, no doubt).

Have fun -- my 300D runs better all the time! I've only used about half a quart since I changed it in the fall, need to change again soon (6000 miles), and that is a small leak on the front cover.

Thanks

Pete,

I still need to get covers done. I picked up a weird little annoying noise. I amy go with Shell Rotellia synthetic. The specs on Amsoil were impressive

Regards, Mike
