Mercedes how do you adjustment the doors? mine isn't closing tight

I bought a 1982 240D and the right front door does not close tight when you shut it...The door goes in and clicks but falls back one position or so it seems and the door opens about 1/2".

I am not sure how or where to adjust it, can soemone help me out?

Thanks
in Adance

I'm trying to figure out why mine is doing that as well...try lubricating the mechanism, if that doesn't work, then a replacement may be in order.

What is the condition of your striker rubber? I replaced the one on my driver's door and it's a LOT better now. They are supposed to have a small bit of rubber that comes down below the metal on the end near the body, and a bumper looking bit on the front face that hangs over the lower metal lip. You can see what I mean in the FastLane parts pic of one for your car.

DSlater hit it on the mark, it is the door strikers. If you take a look, the cube on the doorframe has a piece that protrudes a bit. Mine is tan-colored plastic on the SD, not rubber. I was able to wad up a bit of duct tape and stick it on the striker and it seems to work okay--not pretty, but functional.

You may have the missing "tongue" on the outside or underneath. Here is a related thread and some pics.
