I have found out that Tection Extra contains ZDDP in the amount of 0.825 - 1.6335 % or 825 to 1633.5 PPM.

My pop uses this and gave me a bottle for topping off as/if needed. The bottle is still sealed in the trunk.

That zn is a ridiculous result because it is a huge range. Send some out for voa and get a real answer...

Yeah...I thought so too. I got that number from the MSDS.

Their correspondence with me implies they think they are guarding top secret information.

I sent a specific question about ZDDP but they answered as if I had a gasoline engine for some reason. I next told them I was asking about a diesel engine, but have not heard back yet.

Anyway, here is their ZDDP and gasoline engine response.

Although Castrol Tection Extra carries an SM rating, its primary credentials are diesel. The SM rating is meant for short term use if the owner cannot find the appropriate gasoline engine oil. Diesel engines and gasoline engines have different operating regimes (loads, temperatures, speeds, fuel, exhaust recirculation); the lubricants are formulated differently (additives, ZDDP) to be in line with the primary operating requirements of the engine. Diesel engine oil is formulated with very high levels of detergency to counteract the soot that is circulated back into the oil. Detergency is surface active and does compete with ZDDP for the surface of the cam lobe and lifter face so the proper engine oil to use long-term in gasoline classic car engines is an oil designed for use in a gasoline engine with the correct level of ZDDP to protect his cam and lifters.

That said, the latest API SM/ILSAC GF-4 category calls for reduced Zinc and Phosphorus levels to allow extended catalyst life in current model vehicles. There appear to be field issues associated with the SM/GF-4 oil's level of anti-wear in the classic car engines known as flat tappet cam engines. The current late model passenger car engines are not flat tappet cam engines and have no reported field issues related to the level of anti-wear chemistry in the SM/GF-4 oils.

Product Recommendations for Flat Tappet (Solid Lifter) Cam Engines:
Castrol Syntec SAE 20w-50 (Recent reformulation identified by "Recommended for Classic Cars" text on back label) (min Zn = 0.12 = 1200 ppm)(full synthetic)

Often those folks paste replies and are prtty dumb. Castrol seems to be worse than many in this regard.

Best to do a VOA to get it yourself. MSDS are designed to only give a tiny basis where most critical. Not very telling.
