How Can One Get a European Mercedes?
I was in Paris recently and saw what seemed like hundreds of the Mercedes diesels available over there. Many of the taxis are E200s, E220s, E250s. Left-hand drive, manual transmission, 44 mpg combined, plus Mercedes styling and comfort. Why can't we buy them here is one question, but setting that aside for the moment, does anyone know whether there is any way to get one and import it for personal use into the United States. They aren't available through Mercedes European delivery program (where you buy the car over there, get to drive it for a few weeks, and then have it delivered home), but shouldn't they be able to meet any of the US requirements that are obviously met by the E320 diesels that Mercedes sells here? I'd like a manual transmission with a smaller engine because I'd think it would be less expensive than the E320, especially since they are apparently priced low enough to be used for taxis in Paris.
Are there brokers or consultants that deal with these types of purchases? Any other thoughts? Thanks in advance,

I looked into importing a 123, just not worth it, also taxi are very well "used" - lots of idling, and then hard use . . . $2.5K-$5K shipping, then safety/emission reg compliance . . .
