shock tower blow-out at 1/2 million miles

well, after 500,000 miles I guess something has got to break....

the upper shock/strut mount broke. Not the rubber part but I got pieces of metal broken off the mount. I got 6 inches of strut stickin up thru the fender. I didn't even realize it until i saw the hood kinda moving around a little. Doesn't appear to have dented the hood. New upper strut mount/bushing on order...

I would say it's not an issue of age...1987 wagon...but an issue of miles....1/2 million miles of the shock putting pressure on that bushing and such probably weakened and fatigued the metal parts of the mount....

I figure the other is probably close to busting as well. any members of the high milage club might want to inspect your shock mounts

What amazes me is that your odometer lasted this long.

the odometer is still ticking along...but the reset buttom has problems and will not fully reset the trip dials, causing them to hang up for a while until i can flick the reset buttom just right....so i don't use the trip meter....

and the speedo and odometer shows about 10% more than actuall speed and distance....as verified by long distance GPS and interstate mile marker observations

The '87 I just bought does that, ... someone installed 195/60-15 tires (now in the dumpster).

The 124s get 195/65-15s, not 60. Even look a little funny.
