Smile Help to identify more parts

1985 300D turbo

Can someone identify this part and tell me what the function of this is and what should the vacuum read on each outlet? if any??? the brown line.....is this part of the engine shut off? It is shutting off with the key but a little rough. Looks like most of the lines are leading over to the air filter side, (they are coming into this part and exiting out to the other side) is there a diagram somewhere other than the door locks and a/c......these seem to be the only ones I can find.........does anyone know what the different color coded lines do?
thanks all

Don`t know if you have the federal 85 or calif 85. calif has the air cleaner behind the R/F head light.

This site has the diagrams yuou might be looking for, click on Mercedes and them vacuum diagrams.

there are 2 brown vac lines, one is supply to the ignition switch, and the other connects to the back of the Injection pump. this is your shut off for the engine.
the thing the line connects to is the vacuum shut off.

the green line is for your climate control.

the yellow pod next to the brake booster, is a check valve. there are 2 lines leaving the back side of it, one goes to the drivers door for the door actuators, fuel door actuator and trunk actuator. the other line goes to the vacuum supply tank above the fuel tank in the trunk.

there are some lines that go across the front of the engine (forget the stripe colors, mine are removed) to the EGR and the ARV on the turbo.

your picturers aren`t there.

wish I had pictures of what my eng looked like before I remove things when we did the 4-spd swap. don`t need most of that stuff.

at the top of this forum there are the vacuum diagrams.

At the top of the page in the "Diesel Discussion" there is a sticky for vacuum diagrams. The Cali and Fed for the 85 are similar if not the same minus the trap. ox.

The brown line coming from "source vacuum" goes to the ignition switch. The brown line with the purple stripe goes from the ignition switch to the shut off valve on the back of the IP. The majority of the "important vacuum lines" are on the drivers side. Any lines going across the valve cover and over to the passengers side are all emissions related.

I think my car is a federal version, here is the line in question,(brown) I am not getting any vacuum to it from the black thing, should I be ??? Is it necessary for this line to work? or should I block this line off?? Can I block off the whole black thing with the 3 connectors on the top? My brakes are really hard to press and I was told to check all the vacuum lines, this one has no vacuum, the picture below shows what it goes to.

this is closer to the front of the car... drivers side wheel well
