Storms all day today, will have to wait until tomorrow to pull it apart. Hopefully it'll be dry.

I noticed that at the bottom of the manual that it stated that "this transmission has normal second gear starts".
There was a major debate about this a couple of months ago.

I believe I need to replace the K1 spring in my 240D (2-3 flare)...is the procedure the same in my car? What transmission do I have?

Did you ever fix the non-existent 4th gear? This is what is wrong with my 1993 300d. 4th gear is now neutral. How do I fix it? And what is the k2 spring part # for a 1993 300d, i believe 722.418?

The screws have to be very tight, but an impact wrench is a bit of overkill. Use an offset screwdriver.

Here is a link to the MB manual for 722.3 transmission--I seem to recall that it has diagrams of the valve bodies, maybe no better than the manual already posted.

The K1 & K2 large (diameter of the coils) springs in my 722.303 were broken & I installed the springs to firm up the shifts. I'm going back in and going with the kit replacement for stock springs. Trial and error sometimes makes for slow fixes.
The initial error was 1-2 & 2-3 flare - I think, it's been a whole winter & remembering is hurting my head. I included pics of the valve body with balls when going through this task.
