Smile Christmas came early today!

Just received the 250 000 km badge for my '81 240D in the mail today. It took less than a month all together. Boy, it's almost too pretty to put up there on the grill to be assaulted by bugs and gravel

Those badges are awesome! I still have the certificate from my SDL even though I sold the car.

How many miles you have on her?

Right now it's registered just over 197k mi. I'm hoping to shoot for at least 500k mi. It still looks, runs and drives great. Plus, it's wonderful when people admire it to tell them it's 20 years old and has almost 200k mi. on it. The dumbfounded looks are awesome. No recent American car can match it for durability and longevity!

My '91 Caravan has 195k mi. on it and looks like I pulled it from the salvage yard. It's had head gaskets, a new front end (went over 50k without P/S) and the tranny rebuilt. The paint is all off the roof (thanks to a Chrysler factory defect) and the driver's door has literally fallen off and been welded back together. It still goes 65-100 mi. everyday, but the 240D's definitely my choice to drive. (I have yet to see how it handles in the snow--pretty important since I need something to bust through the drifts to get to impromptu my winter job of driving a snowplow.)

Bill,

Yes, the badge is ALMOST too pretty to put on the car. I went to an MBCA meeting several years ago with all three high mileage badges on my grille. Several folks there were surprised that I put them on the car. They told me they were afraid of getting theirs stolen, so they put them on a plaque on the wall.

I told them that I had more faith in man kind than they do. I've parked my car in all sorts of places and have never had them stolen.

That's why they call them grille badges, my car wears them with pride. As the car and the badges look more chipped and worn, it just adds to the idea of a high mileage car.

Have a great day,

Heh, also, most people can't understand why you'd be proud to get an award for high milage on your car......

invisik,

Just curious. Are you being fecitious?

There are many of us here who are EXTREMELY PROUD of getting high mileage awards. It says two things; we have properly cared for our cars, and we drive a car which was built in such a way that it is possible to achieve high mileage.

Are Bill and I the only ones who do not see this as something to be ashamed of? I can't understand what there would be that would make one ashamed.

Have a great day,

Good morning list. I would like to ask how to get these high mileage badges. I would like to put one in my grille as I feel the same way about these cars ability to drive forever. Mine has 278,000k miles. Thanks in advance.

You can go to your local MB dealer and ask for the forms. There's a part they need to sign, then you fill out the rest and mail it to MB (the address is on the form). In a few weeks you'll receive your badge, and a signed certificate from MB.

Very cool.

I called 800-FOR-MERC to get the form, but you still have to go to the dealer to have the form completed. They offer awards for 250 000, 500 000 & 1 000 000 km. You'll be glad you got it and it doesn't cost a dime! (Actually, 34 cents for postage...)

I have my form, just waiting for 1,300 more miles to pass. Having no records for the car makes it a bit tougher, especially since I only have a 5 digit odometer, to know the actual mileage. I have been to the dealer that is on the license plate ring, thinking maybe they had serviced the car at some point in the past, but to no avail. They had not one record of ever having serviced the car.

Without further proof, due to the age of the car, I consider the mileage to be in the 150K range (maybe MBUSA will have proof of higher).

Proud of the mileage AND longevity, can't wait to show it.

Thanks for the leads, I will check those out. I didn't get any records from the PO, will the odometer work out for the dealer?
Thanks again.

What were they thinking when they made five figure odometers?

(from way back up the thread)

Larry,

No, when I received my badge I was extremely proud, took about 15 pictures of it off the car, about 15 more on the car and framed my certificate. My wife, mom, dad, brother, everyone at work thought I was completely insane. The guys at the Benz dealer congratulated me.

This 300 SDL I'm looking at has 232k on it and has 2 (not sure why) 250,000 KM badges on the front. I hope to get it to 500,000 KM (what 's that, like 366,000 miles or something?) to get the next one. Kind of doing it the easy way, but I'm kind of starting off where my previous SDL left off, so I think I'm still right up there with everyone else.

I keep looking at the badges on the front of Cadillacs, but they're always some countries' flag or other club logo. They don't have nothin' on the Benzes!

So the question is, anyone have the 1,000,000 KM badge?!

When I went to the dealer and asked about the badge program a month ago, they gave the 800 number, told me to get the form, fill it out and send it in. I did not take it to the dealer to have it filled out, nor did I have them do it for my first badge 12 years ago. I have not heard from them yet.

BTW. I never put the badge on the 300D, it just looked too pretty. We've moved since then and I don't even know where it is now. Boxed up somewhere I suppose.
