95 300D roll over... worth getting from insurance co?
my customer's girlfriend passed out on the road and rolled the car.
she's fine, but the car is a total loss. should I attempt to get the car from the insurance co? what should I offer? the vehicle has low mileage, and a new injection pump... (WTF?) no idea why the pump would go out on a low mileage motor, but there you have it. what would you expect the vehicle to be worth to the co?

Ask
They may take as little as a couple of hundred.
Even better...Implore him to buy the wreck from his insurance company, with your money.(They HAVE to give him a shot at the chassis) AND chances are they will be less likely to Screw their own customer. (Boy,Do I live in a Dream World?) (Insurance Companies will screw ANYBODY,just because they can get away with it.) Heck ,that's an OM606,I'll give you a couple of hundred for the engine/transmission. Or if you don't wanna fuss with it ask him if he wants to get rid of the combo. y'all please let me know. Thanks.

That is going to depend upon how they do the numbers. If they value the car at X and offer 70% of that and then offer a buy back at 25%. It would depend upon the records the owner can produce to show the cars value based on repairs. A friend of mine just went through this. Older car, clean, LOTS of recent work. In the end they wanted too much for the buy back, so he cut his losses and took the check.
I know this does not help you at all. Have your client ask to buy it back. That's a bargain right there.

Thats really the only way to do it. The customer gets first right of refusal. They won't want to sell it to you for a small number, they'd probably rather sell it at an auction for what it is worth.
If this motor will fit a 1997 E300D, PM me. Both are OM606 non turbo. I am interested in the motor if you can make me a smokin deal, cause my OM606 is smokin, and is isn't because it was a good deal lol. I'll come pick it up too. Lemme rephrase, just PM me. |

This is a great chance to swap into a later model wagon. How often do you see gassers needing a motor?
Put a gas motor up for sale and build a 606 powered wagon.

Funny you say that, I looked at a beautiful I think '96 E320T yesterday with a blown head gasket.

If the ins totals it, they should give owner a buy back amount. I had to do this with mine when it got backed into. They gave me car for $300.

The insurance company will typically offer the car to you for what they can get for it, either from a rebuilder (unlikely if the car is rolled) or the scrapyard. I had this happen when I totalled my '95 after a relatively mild hit about 5 years ago. They had an offer in hand from a shop which would rebuild it and sell it with a salvage title, and they offered it to me for the same price.
Rgds, Chris W. replaced my '95 with another '95 |

I will pay you a very good price for the engine. Or, I will buy the car from you. Please let me know, as I urgently need an engine for my '95, which spun a rod bearing on Christmas day.

Most likely the car will go to Copart or Sadisco to be auctioned off.

The engines for a 95 are hard to come by as they only work for that particular year (96,97 are different). Both Livbroker and myself have been looking for a couple of weeks. It would be an excellent parts car but location is a problem. If it were me I would buy it for $1000 in a heartbeat as long as the drivetrain looked ok

1995 was an OM606 non turbo. 3.0L DOHC Inline-6 diesel. OM606.910 I believe. The 96-97 cars were OM606.912. From what I read the .910 and .912 are the same with minor mounting differences but they can be interchanged if you have all the parts off of the car it is going into.
Can anyone confirm or deny? |
