whunter said it, he's not sure, but he's really dissappointed with remans and strongly believes the OE axles are superior if they only need a reboot.

There was no 3rd choice in the Poll. I could go either way.
At the time I doscovered the boots torn on my Car it was the only Car I had runing. I did not see that Guy with the ATF Funnel Rebooting Video until Months later. Also from the sources I knew to buy the Boots from it looked like it was going to cost about $40 per Axle to reboot them. I opted for $75 each Cardone Rebuilts bought locally and had my Car on the Road the Next day or so. I guess that was 2 years ago or more. So far no problems. Now that I have learned all the good info from the Forum on how to reboot; I would be happy to reboot them myself if the boots have a problem again. If it turned out my Axles were damaged beyond rebooting I am not sure if I would buy New Asian Axles or try to get a set from the Junk Yard. I do not like either choice. I will face that when the time comes to do so. Concerning CVJ; all rebuilding companies have a problem getting good rebuildable Cores. As time goes on the Cores you get are in worse and worse condition and the number of rebuildable Cores begins to deminish. Also due to the weight of the Axles shipping Cores back cost the Customer. Now CVJ has to compete with a flood of new Asian made Axles at almost 1/2 the cost of their rebuilt ones and the customer does not need to pay to ship his core back. So their choice appears to be to try to remain competitive.

If I did something like that, I'd have to set up something like a business and peachparts would need advertising money for that. and I doubt the company would be able to offer someone rebuilding axles as a business, due to liability and the like. I'm just checking to see if the ones I have in good condition would be worth rebuilding and selling to the members, or letting them go with the carcass to the scrap yard.

1000x yes. Dealing with ****ty EMPI axles on VWs has shown me just how much better the originals were. The cheepie rebuilds are simply garbage. I suppose you could get away with a cheepie axle on a benz for longer because the CV has less work to do on a rear drive car, but from my experience it will still be a POS and fail way early.

I was unsuccessfull in my attempt to reboot with the Dorman boot & funnel method. If I had thought to look at the Pick-N-Pull, a good used axle might have been an option.
Only one of my local auto-parts suppliers even stocks the Chinese axles anymore, and they aren't that cheap. After reading about them on another thread, I opted for the CVJ rebuilts. Happy Motoring, Mark

If you are doing this for 126 axles I'm in! there is only a few places selling the "new" 126 axles, and they are the remans, and cost around $300 and axle. what would the price be for your rebooted axles? I'd rather have a quality rebooted axle and save some money!

If an OE axle is damaged, then reman is the only choice, right? Anyone on here do rebooting for pay? Might be a nice way to make a few bucks. Id pay at least as much money for a reboot as a reman would cost from an auto parts place.

Rebooting is on my agenda once I get a promised compressor.
I cant see anyway really of doing a reboot other than with a gun once everything is spotlessly clean and ready for fresh grease.

I just replied on your other thread but I'm not sure which one you're using as a master list, etc. I'd need to hear a price first but I'm potentially in need of a pair for the 240D. One of them actually started clunking on me last weekend on the way to school. Just had it at a local shop today and they couldn't find anything wrong; the test drive was quiet. I know what I heard though, so I figure I'm bound to be in trouble before long. Sounds like somebody hammering under the back end. Intermittently of course, only after several miles at road speed.
