The auto shop across the street had a customer listening to the shop owner discuss his car issues ,as the shop owner shut the hood the customers left hand was in the way ,2 fingers were severed .It turns out no one could find one of the digits and will likely be a part of a future find when and if its ever brought back in for service.
Most accidents are more likely to happen Ive noticed when 2 people are involved on one project, just today I was dropping a tree and was asked by the homeowner if I needed any help ,nice granted ,but I said simple ,no gravity is all the help needed here.

Friend had an old Plymouth with a push button transmission parked on a street in Brooklyn. Starter wouldn't work and we didn't know if it was something with the push button system or the NSS. There was a car parked about 3 feet in front of it but I said I'd jump the starter terminals to see if it would start and then we could push the transmission selector buttons to see if they were working. At idle speed I figured even if it was in drive it would crawl slowly up to the bumper of the car in front. It started when I jumped it so I moved around to the driver's seat to mess with the shifter buttons. Just then, my thoughtless friend, wanting to clear the engine out a bit, stepped in front of the car, reached up and opened the throttle wide. The car was in drive and it leaped forward crushing my friends legs between the two bumpers. Lucky for him, there were bumper projections on both vehicles which provided enough protection so that he didn't completely smash his legs.

Next time you replace the front socks on your 300SD, make sure you punch the shock tower mount while trying to tighten down the shock rod. You might bleed all over the engine bay but only once the job is completed, inspect the wound. Do a moderate job cleaning it and get out the grease and dirt but no too much. REAL MEN don't use Band-Aids, either. For an added bonus, later in the day, go to the shooting range with some buddies. When the wound opens up again and you bleed all over the range in the middle of your session, you may have to explain that you did not accidentally shoot yourself.

If done correctly, you will have a nice light-grey-colored scar.

If that's not enough fun, replace your rack dampener bolt while the engine is hot using bare hands.

Catch a falling star

Something slipped and the cousin fell most of the 40 feet onto pavement. He broke several legs and other things and the docs told him the survival rate for such a fall was only a few percent. He did survive, however, and is OK today but will always be able to predict the approach of bad weather.

Bone head move 100% on my part, but I was having trouble on a car back in high school getting the engine mounts to line up while reinstalling it, so I jacked up the engine hoist and turned the pressure release valve just a bit so it would lower slowly while I shoved my arm down in the bay to line up the mounts and it ended up pinching my wrist pretty bad in between the exhaust manifold and the fender well, I was just out of reach to be able to jack it back up, I was stuck for about 10 minutes till some one heard my screams and came out to assist. by the time my hand was freed I had lost most all feeling in it, didnt scatch or break anything though, so I dont know if that counts.

i once injured myself cleaning the baked on soot out of a diesel intake manifold with a gasoline powered pressure washer. i had no idea those things generate enough pressure to tear into your flesh, even a good 12" out from the end of the nozzle. i have a weird jagged scar on my arm.

i get weird looks when people ask me about the scar, and i tell them i cut myself with water.

Flywheel teeth are pretty sharp sometimes. Luckily ATF and Dexron are great for cleaning wounds.... Okay not really, but I do have a pretty little scar from the experience.

If you do enough stuff accidentally hurting yourself once in awhile is the price of passage. If you feel you are an accident prone type best to really think of what you are doing or just do not do things. There are a few common sense rules to find and practice as well. They tend to lessen the damage somewhat if something happens.

I should throw in unlike gas never syphon diesel fuel. Just in case someone is unaware. Gas is far from pleasant but may cause no long term damage. Diesel fuel can cause permanent damage if ingestetd into the lungs I have been told.

I have two finger injuries. One occured when I was changing the clutch on my motorcyle at the track. The second when demonstrating what not to do with a belt sander to a nephew. The last one was pretty stupid in hindsight. Then again most are that way in hindsight I suspect.

The only permanent damage is my one index finger is about 3/16 inch shorter than the other after going through the chain sprocket. The injury remained sensitive for a few years if the end of the finger was tapped on anything.
