Delivery Valve Torque specs

Are all the torque specs the same for IP delivery valves? I'm particularly concerned with a 1991 300D 2.5. I just want to make sure that my procedure will be correct.

I need the numbers to fill in the blanks.

I took a look at it and saw "Nm". Is "Nm" a different unit of measurement? If so, what is 30 Nm equivalent to? I'm not really familiar with torque wrenches.

Instead of a "pound" of force at one "foot" from the rotating axis, it's one "Newton" of force at one "meter" from the axis.

1 ft-lb = 1.356 Nm or 1 Nm = .737 ft-lb

Question

This is what I found. 30 N*m is equivalent to 265.5 lbf*in.(pound-force inch). Does this sound correct? I purchased a smaller torque wrench as opposed to the larger one that calibrated that's in Ft.-lbs., mine is calibrated in In.-Lbs. I plan to tackle this tomorrow and don't want to damage anything. Any comments?

According to GSXR

"Torque to 30Nm and release.
Torque to 30Nm and release.
Torque to 35Nm"

30Nm = 265.52 Inch /Lbs OR 22.126 Ft/ Lbs
35Nm = 309.78 Inch/Lbs OR 25.814 Ft/Lbs

Remember: 7K and 7G Must Not Rotate in their relationship to each other!
AND 7G Must Not Rotate in relation to the holder in which it sits.
All three of these parts have established a "Lapped" relationship
to each other and allowing a change will result in unwanted
"Nailing" noises form the Injection Pump.

Also: A Surgical Suite at the Mayo Clinic is Dirty compared to the
outside of your Injection Pump(Before you begin this task)!
'Make sure your work area is as cleanly.
You know you need a special socket for the top of the DV holders?

Also "exercise" your New Torque Wrench by starting @ about 5Nm on
your lugnuts and working up to about 50Nm. (It tensions and Lubricates it!)

Oh, yeah. What's the status of this socket?

I'm drivin' down tomorrow... It'll save you some driving time to meet up with me.

Thanks for the tips. What do you suggest I use to clean around the area? I was going to use some brake cleaner. By the way, I have the "special" socket.

Brake Cleaner's OK (Toothbrush,Gogles and Gloves)

VERY strong SOLVENT Though.
Keep it AWAY from all painted surfaces!

It'll strip the Paint off the IP's metallic I.D. Tag
(Duct Tape over it, use WD40 to remove gummy adhesive residue)

[Also ,Got Very Very Lucky he didn't suffer 'Orrible after-effects from
surgery on his pump,whilst dirty!]

I especially like his work-around of using a dab of White Lithium Grease
to hold the Springs upright ,so he could seat the top of the Holder.

EDIT: The Grease holding the spring trick credit goes to NHDOC ,My Bad.

Thanks again for the tips. Nate I picked up one today from another forum member this morning. He lives in No. VA. I was going to call you in the morning to let you know. I'm going to try to get to it tomorrow, if not I will get started first thing Saturday morning.

Hey, no problem.

I used a typical engine degreaser (I think it was the Citrus Engine Brite). Scrub around the top of the injection pump with a toothbrush or similar. I think I carefully cleaned it (further) after removing the splined collars. I also put rags everywhere so I wouldn't drop any debris into the injection pump.

Using the grease to hold the springs in place works quite well. I believe I used a tiny dab of dielectric grease.

Clean IP:

PS: Don't forget that the hood can go vertical! It'll keep you from banging your head on the grill

Question

Wow! I didn't realize that the IP could be that clean. Two things Nate 1) How do I make the hood go vertica? 2)Why doesn't grease directly inside of the delivery vavle hurt anything?
These might rather trivial questions for you guys, but I just would like know.

Hood Vertical

1.Make sure you're not in a Garage with an Electric vertical roller door!
[Or Unplug that sucker like I do!]
(Horrible Hood Bending accidents when the Gentler Half pushes the automatic
door opener OR Somebody's AWAC flys over and the Door goes up!)
2.Lift the Hood up as normal...Then release the driver's side tab...
then the Passenger side tab .(By release, you'll push the tab inwards,Lower
the hood 1/64 inch and then it'll swing completely vertical, and lock.)

2.All the high pressure Diesel washes out the grease in the first millisecond.

Nate,
A thing of beauty, that mirror finish on the top of Your I.P.
