I may be reading your post wrong, but I believe the booster shown in your film clip is actually a supercharger, not a turbo charger. They are different animals that accomplish the same thing through different means. Supercharger is driven by belts, etc. from the engine, while the turbo charger uses exhaust gases to provide the driving source.

I think the mad max super charger sequence referenced is for our entertainment only.

Joke fail.

I got it.
Love the vid clip added to the post.

With a VGT you can hold the "fins" closed to maintain full boost. For our applications most are setup to release pressure between 12 and 20 psi. As manifold pressure increases and you are nearing the upper limits of your settings, the VGT and VNT turbo will open fins to let off boost. the mad max switch can be installed so that the fins never open and you maintain the boost...

Interesting. how difficult is it to install this? Is the Turbo itself much different than what we have stock? (referring to physical size and attachment.)

The only one thats appropriate for the 3 ltr is the--the he341ve--not the usual one. I didn't just decide on it, Ive been on a quest to find one for a looong time-they are very un common in America. The he351ve is too big for a mercedes diesel and can be found any day on ebay- the dodge egr lets soot build up-The electronic controller sends a false signal because the veins start to stick and the check engine light comes on and they get a new turbo under warrenty.
on the controlling boost part-i have heard to only let it go to 15 pounds max.

Thats not a vgt, if I had to go with some non variable turbo-in my opinion a non modern one--I may as well just jeave the stock one on-they dont usually go out, the 25 sounds way on the small side.

The holset he341ve is a bolt in, no adapter plates on the manifold or rear exit-stock exhaust mounts up. Depending on what kind of aircleaner is being used a new inlet duct of some type is needed in any swap, I already swapped an 85 Cali aircleaner from my first car. This turbo can give 20% more power at least, with the usual -injector nozzles-115 intake-turn up the pump a little, some guys include an intercooler 25% max which can bring the 25 plus idi 617 up to the hp of a modern dodge/mercedes sprinter electronic om602 2.5 5 cyl.

I am using a standard wastegate actuator like the one forced posted in conjunction with a vacuum actuator hooked to the VCV for the transmission. The wastegate (pressure) actuator alone will work, but it will likely just cause the turbo to put out a set pressure, even when you don't need it (partial "throttle", cruising etc)

So as far as the dashpot in the pic--would a 90 dodge vnt actuator work- it uses both pressure and vaccum to actuate it from what i read.
