Is coolant temperature sensor for 1985 300SD on side of engine below injector hoses
 

Is 85 300SD's coolant temperature sensor on side of engine below
injector hoses on driver's side ? The two near thermostat
are for fan and I think blower for A/C.

it should be.
you can test by shorting to ground. look for the temp to peg when you do.

did that and it pegged all the way UP. second thing is, once
i begin to remove the old sensor there will be some coolant
running out, right ?

how do you short ground
 

Please explain to me how I would short the ground on the temp sensor that way I can find out what my problem is the sensor or the gauge.

Unplug the wire from the sensor, it is one wire. Now touch the terminal of the wire you unplugged to something that is metal and grounded like the block of the engine. You may need a short extra piece of wire to do this. The meter should peg all the way hot.

Alright ill give it a shot. That's for the fast response.

OK so I pulled the wire off the sensor. Put a price of wire down inside the hole that connected to the sensor and grounded the other end. No movement on my temp gauge. does it sound like I done this correct. If I did this means my gauge is bad right??? If that's the cause can I just buy a after market gauge and hook it into the temp sensor some how that way I don't have to remove the cluster ??
