I can't really compare the 124 wagon to an SDL but as you know I have the 123 wagon and really love it. I plan to keep it until there's nothing left to it.

I also really love my 300SDL. The differences between these two vehicles from the driver seat are mostly in handling and noise level.

I think the 126 is more refined and quieter, but my 123 wagon actually feels a bit peppier off the line and I feel the road more (think sportier). The SDL is a big, comfortable, floating boat. There is definitely more room for all the passengers in the SDL. Leg room is a given, but side to side is bigger too. I can put the car seats in the SDL and an adult can actually sit between them. This is impossible in the 123.

I kind of miss the diesel clatter of the 617 when I'm in the SDL and I think the SDL sounds very much like a gasser when you stomp the accelerator.

That being said, I think you should have one of each.

Haha I like the idea of owning both, @odie has a ton of miles on his wagon and I bet I could get that out of mine too if the body doesn't fall apart from rust before that. I find it easy to believe @Hit Man X that the wrong tires/suspension can be found on used SDL's if they are not properly kept up with -- people cheap out on stuff which makes me wonder why not just get a cheaper car to operate?

Best 1987 300TD I've seen lately was in Washington, white exterior with blue interior for $10k. We had a discussion on the forums here either in the eBay link or Craigslist one. I think that's the most I've seen for a 87' 300TD.

Most I have seen was $20k for a black on gray 300SDL that looked brand new someone was trying to sell for the longest time on Craigslist -- gone now and I wonder how much it went for

White was most likely a dealer's service wagon, white with a blue interior was almost certainly a dealer's service (parts, courtesy car, etc.) wagon.

Not a huge deal, but that means that it was driven by techs and everyone else, and its first "owner" was not someone who could afford to keep it inside and fix whatever it needs.

Plus, it's the most common color combo on the wagon (for the above reason).

I'd consider a white T124, but wouldn't pay a premium for one.

@Jeff - Interesting knowledge but of course the question is, if the most common color combo was white/blue then how is it 'most likely' to be a dealer's service wagon?

That's the reason it's the most common, every dealer had at least one, didn't have at least one of each other color.

@Jeff -- Ahhh I see what you are saying. This is still a tough choice but you guys have given me some good incite and some great reasons to go either way.
