Perhaps the insurance adjuster is trying to deter the buy back because someone else is interested in the salvaged car (of course, not at that ridiculously high quoted price). Just a supposition...

Probably not, a Mercedes dealer would almost certainly take a '95 to auction, and unlikely that a '95 E300 owner would take it to a M-B dealer to trade it anyway.

Better going to traderonline and ebay.

95 E300 Special Edtion

Well, since you asked, I am likely to be putting my E300 on fleabay and cars dot com in a few weeks. Depends on a few things not settled out yet.

95 MB E300 Special Edition (Azure Blue, 6 hole wheels, burl walnut, SS door sills, phone, memory seat, adj. steering wheel, CD changer, 10 speaker sound system) with ASD, beige leather, heated seats, headlight wipers, and Becker 1492 AM/FM/WB/Cassette/CD Changer w/mod for Aux In MP3. 99K miles, well maintained, cracked bolster leather both front seats covered with canvas seat covers, some car wash scratches in clearcoat & 6” scratch driver’s door, 2 small cracks in rear bumper surround, CC not working.

PM me for full description and a photobucket link for about 100 pics if you think this is something she might think about in a few weeks and if life dictates sale.

Dave

They won't negotiate. Wasting your time. I went through the same thing with a 97 Acura 3.2TL. A great car, got almost nothing for it after I was rear-ended and totaled. Just take the money and move on.

I disagree. They will negotiate...especially if you say your neck does not feel 100% and tell them you will not sign off the medical until they settle for the car.

I'd let it go, troll the local copart or salvage auto line and wait for it to go up for auction. If they think its worth $2,500 it'll go to auction, not straight to the crusher.

the owner misunderstood... they are offering her 2500 including the car... not asking 2500...
some people just can't understand the spoken word...
anywhoo... 800 is a MUCH more fair offer for the car.

another update...
they upped her offer, for the damages/value of the car. she's now getting 4500 after the deductible and buyback of the car... then they threw in a wrinkle.
if They keep the wreck, they will pay her registration/taxes on the car she purchases... sooo, she's thinking about letting them keep the car.
she says I can buy it from her for 1000.
what do you think?
take it or leave it?

Do you have a home for the parts? To buy it on speculation, seems like you'll work hard to get your money back if you're into that but there should be some potential for profit.

At 235k? With the deductable, $5000-$5500 sounds like a generous replacement.

As for you buying it, I think its too high.
