yes sir.
you can even leave the chain guide on there, too. it is certainly easier and less 'fumbly' if you remove them... but you'll get it. |

leave the top right chain guard on?

there is only one chain rail in the head.
you can leave that on, but it must be knocked loose before attempting to pull the head. |

So pull pins and pull head then remove the rail?

Pins out but I split one, what a pain. Camshaft gear and camshaft are next, I took off the vacuum pump too.

Bad news!!
Well the head is off and I think the rings on #3 are bad, I can move the piston alittle. So what next? I cant see where the headgasket is bad, it has to be bad somewhere because I was loosing coolant. Also notice how #1 and #3 are wet and #2 and #4 are not. Why? I can move all the pistons alittle so I guess this is normal?

I can't believe worn rings would cause compression that low. Even without rings I would think it would be higher. I would look at the valves for that one, one can't be seating correctly or is sticking.

Any bore damage is too much!! If there are vertical scratches/gouges that you can catch your finger nails on half way up the cylinder, then you can expect broken rings.
