Ooops I crapped my pants.... Exhausted my bumper
I have all the lower body molding off the SD at the moment, I'm working on repainting it. here is what I found under the molding. Looks like th old girl crapped her pants
After some degreaser, scrubbing and Mr. Pressure Washer... its amazing how dirty it is under those pieces of plastic!

Now you dont have to paint it. It looks great.
Curious what the dual sounds like? I imagine it doesnt sound any different, yes? I am looking forward to seeing more pics of the whole process. What did it take to remove everything? I am about to under take this as well.

Man, I was just messing with my Benz tonight and wondered these same two questions;1 what's it take to remove all the molding ans 2. Wonder if I can make dual from the Y pipe and what would it sound like? Got any pics of underneath?
Good timing! |

Looks like it had a leaky exhaust at some stage.
All that dirt is very good at holding moisture & starting rust!! It looks great after the clean. I like the look of your hog!!!

the dual exhaust didn't sound any different really. I did have a bad exhaust leak....
Jim B loves this story, so i'll tell it again lol. During high school... I set off some bottle rockets over Clear Lake... they are illegal, but thats why I set them off over the lake, didn't wanna start a fire. they when off illuminating the Sheriffs boat. they headed for the dock we were on, myself and 3 of my friends ran for the SD. we got in the car and heard boots on the dock, so i punched it, went up a curb and on to the street. this ripped up the resonators (kidneys) so I cut them out... well then the exhaust hung to low and I didn't like that so i tried to fab up some hangers... some how this caused the failure of my flex pipe.... but I didn't know that. my friend and i decided to rebuild the exhaust. we got a new muffler and everything, welded it up only to have the car sounds the same, we inspected all the exhaust (under the car) and found no leaks. popped the hood and the flex pipe was gone! we repaired that and then everything should have been done... except, we decided to have some beers, after talking it over the next day took it all apart and fabbed up the straight pipe dual exhaust. mainly for looks, and cause the car sounded really good without the flex pipe, but we wanted the exhaust to come out the back. the car has had the dual exhaust for the last 6 years! Its time for something new. 3" straight pipe! PS the bike is my roommates, I don't ride, thought about it, but haven't done it yet.

Removing the molding is kind of a bear. you have to get a screwdriver under it up next to the clips that hold it on, and then pry on the molding and pop it of. on the top, at ether end of the molding panel there are some clips that slide, they don't pop, and they slide in different directions depending on the panel, so be careful at those places. I had a friend help me so i didn't just get pissed off and rip them off.
