What's my car worth?

I hope this is appropriate to ask here, if not I can either move or delete it.

87 SDL 103k actual miles
rebuilt title
looks like the hood and trunk have been re-shot, because a couple small spots of the clear is coming up, but its still a good 10 footer.
Needs a windshield, no history or documents

It has no problems mechanically (except non functional AC) and is daily driven. Doesn't smoke, good boost, shifts well, no rust, fresh Michelins.

interior is a 9.5

I bought if for my wife and she doesn't really like it. I'm in the market for a B5 S4 and was thinking I might move on.

What's your guys opinion on how much this things worth with a bad title?

I hear OR is a good place to sell a diesel in good shape. post an ad in your craigslist, and local paper. I bet you do well.
I'd love to find one like yours near me. most are trash recepticals around here.

I'm sorry to say, but your car is worth $500 however the interior looks good so i'll give you $600 for it ;)

On a serious note that car looks good. What is wrong with the windshield?

Wodnek 03-28-2010 09:15 PM

Around here that looks like a $2500 - $3500 car if i had to guess.

Its just cracked along the bottom.

I know what I've seen some SDLs with these kind of miles go for, but dont think Ive seen any with branded titles, or if at this point of a car like this' life, its a real big issue for this niche?

Or is a car just a car and I should put it up on CL and deal with the kids and tire kickers and get what I get......

Given that is has a "rebuilt title?" It wouldn't be worth much to anyone in the know, not wanting it dirt-cheap - perhaps $1,500 or less....

TylerH860 03-28-2010 10:22 PM

I would say the rebuilt title cuts the value in half of a comparable one. I would put it at $2,750 if it does not have a thorough service history to back up the mileage. If it does have the history, and the reason it was totaled was minor, maybe $1000 more tops.

mplafleur 03-28-2010 10:39 PM

$1500 if I want to steal it.

and I imagine much more if you were selling it. ;)

chasinthesun 03-29-2010 10:27 AM

Service and condition is 6 pts of the value ,miles is 4 pts, BS is megative 10 pts. Price it at $3000 ,sell no lower than $2500 ,sell it to someone who knows about MB diesels and youll be much happier with the sale in the long run.

JimFreeh 03-29-2010 10:53 AM

Perhaps if you disclosed the price you paid, you might answer your question.

Great.

This gives me a good idea.

Thanks a lot gentleman. :)

junqueyardjim 03-29-2010 12:24 PM

That title will hurt it

But it is s really nice looking car, nice interior, good tires really excellant tires. I would think $3000.00 is definetly possible

DieselPaul 03-29-2010 12:31 PM

Both my diesels have rebuilt titles, doesn't really bother me. They aren't sports cars where exact tolerances are 100% key (i.e. like a ferrari), they go down the road straight, the doors all close right... I don't really see the problem. People on craigslist will be happy to go WELLLLLLLLLLLLLL I like it but it's salvage so take $500 for it. Screw them. It's in better shape the almost all the non salvage SDLs I see.

Sell it to a fellow enthusiast. It's a 22 year old car that even with a straight title isn't worth tons of money. Salvage certainly hurts it, but I would argue in matters of hundreds, not thousands, or that number of 50%.

dariod 03-29-2010 02:23 PM

That is a very nice SDL. At that age salvage title does not matter at all. I would say $2500 is a good price.
