1987 300sdl knock not sure whats wrong any help?

I have a 1987 300 sdl diesel 603 engine just went on trip from spotsylvania va to elkton md over the weekend car did just fine. got ready to come home 20 minutes down the road the car just started making a knocking sound, held exc oil pressure temp stayed the same, other then the knock no difference. at slow speed and accelerartng held the knock once up to speed knock wasn't as noticable, sometimes not hearing it all. any thoughts on what it could be, where i should start to look for the problem. when car idles it runs fine every now and then you hear it give a couple loud knocks and then back fine. i don't beleive it is on the rods we drove back about 20 miles to where i came from and it never got any worse. any help would be deeply apprecatied. Thanks:(

May be a injector problem. Find the cylinder making the knock and move the injector to another cylinder. See if the knock moves to the new cylinder.
