Routing trailer wiring inside -> outside

Question for those who've installed a trailer wiring harness in their W123's (300TD preferred)...

I've got the 5-wire -> 4 wire converter/adapter, and plan to solder the leads from the converter onto the bulb contacts inside the taillight housings. Converter will stay inside the spare tire well. The 'output' of the converter is terminated with the same type of connector that plugs into the trailer harness connector, and then there is an extension which plugs into the converter/adapter and to the trailer harness connector.

That said, what is the preferred path to get the extension harness/connector from inside the car to outside? I don't think the openings that the backup light wiring routes through is large enough to pass the 4-wire flat connector through, so what else is there for options? I'd prefer not to drill another hole in the body obviously, and I don't like the idea of passing it out the hatch opening...

Thanks in advance,
Dave

I don't have the TD with hatch, but I do have the adapter installed and leave it in
the trunk coiled up when not used.

I found that hanging it out the trunk was not a problem and the rubber trunk seal seems
to have enough give to make it no problem.

If that does not work and pinches the wire then a discreet hole with weather proof
grommet would seem the way to go.

heck, if it's a TD, just pass it out one of the rust holes in the hatch
oh, yours is rust free? hmm.
look in the spare tire well, or the first aid well. the rear window washer routs through there... perhaps a passage is available in one of these openings.

Not sure about the 123, but my 126 has these plastic things on the sides that the rear bumper grips on to, they have like rubber flaps in them that I passed the wires though.

Left coiled inside, pass over lid seal on both chassis.

my W124 wagon I just have everything coiled up inside the spare tire compartment. I pull it out and let the hatch close over it when I need it.
