Question 87 td cruise ???

I am trying to sort out the weird cruise problems on my wagon.Sometimes it works ok,sometimes it wants to go WOT!!! sometimes it does nothing. The assumption is that the problem is likely the amplifier. The amp that is in it is the old style with no coding plug, i have a spare for my 91 2.5 that i hope will work in the 87with 603.Can one of you helpful fellows that has a functioning cruise in an 87 with 603 that has the newer style amp with the coding plug tell me the part number on the case of the amp and the number on the coding plug. i know its a pain to look at but i really need some help here.CANCEL THIS REQUEST, FOUND THE INFO I NEED the little black coding resistor p/n 005 545 46 32 that plugs into the cruise amp, anybody got one ?
TIA Don

Hey, Try replacing the brain, my wagon had the misfortune of being the brain and actuator, but it's usually the brain that's going. Mine did the same thing, Some times it'd work, other times it wouldn't

The "brain"usually called the amplifier is what i am replacing, the one in my wagon was the original made in 86 no longer available but updated to a readily available number which i have. The updated one requires a code resistor a little black cube that plugs into the amp next to the 14 pin plug, this code resistor is car specific the amp itself fits many models. The original was different and did not use a code resistor so i am trying to find the specific one for the wagon, then i hope to have cruise! Not sure how much of a purist you are but I just replaced my with the CCS-100 cruise unit. I'm pleased and cost about $125.

where to find:

I have considered installing an aftermarket cruise,if i didnt already have the spare amp thats the way i would be going. There is no guarantee the amp is the problem so i very well may end up going aftermarket anyway. Not much of a purist, with all the help available here and being able to use the original control stalk the aftermarket unit is a no brainer. If the amp doesn't work out. You get to use the connector to connect the wires from the aftermarket amp to the harness and it makes for a cleaner easier install.

My cruise was doing the same thing and I sent it to Programa in Boca, Fl to be rebuilt. It was $150 + $15 return shipping with a three year warranty. You can download a R&R form from their website and just send it in. I had mine back within a week and no complaints so far (it's only been about a month though).

FYI, They're the ones that have rebuilt most of the ones for sale in the $250-$400 range. The dealer quoted $750 for an actual new MB one.

Is the unit that you provided the link to an electronic or vacuum operated unit?
I looked at the info on ebay, the text on the booklet says electronic but it looks like they include vacuum hose with it????? Don
