how difficult will it be to swap 606 into 93 124?

I bought the 93 parts car with broken timing chain...
tore down the valve cover, WOW was the cam gear worn down to a nub!!!
the oil and internals of the motor were very clean, is the 2.5T a crappy motor gear wise?
anyway, I have the opportunity to get a rolled 95 for 1K or less... I'm working on the details...
I was thinking of a parts car, but now I'm considering doing a total swap into my 93... doors, interior, transmission, computer, motor of course, and other items...
what do you all think?
aside from my being crazy, how difficult/impossible/easy would this be?

Do what I'm doing with my Jetta, swap the WHOLE harness, you probably won't even have to break out the old soldering iron

"Some"

Of the earlier OM602 s had a Timing Chain Problem (Spelled Bad Supplier)
[Bad Chain will Eat Sprockets]

That 300D2.5 with an OM606 Motor and Transmission will be a Rocket Ship!

(you do realize all the above vehicles have been slightly altered from stock?)

It'll be a tight squeeze,but doable.

Someone here has done it?

why will it be a rocket ship? (aside from making the mods these racers did...)
I'll be moving the stuff from a 124 to a 124... I thought the non turbo 124's were sluggish...
I just wanna have a functioning MB. and this gets me there low $$

I'd guess it would be easier to swap in a 603, the engine is cheaper, and has more power but I'd suggest putting in another 602 for the easier swap and better resale.

Anything is possible with enough time and money.

the thing is, I have a complete 300D that was wrecked, just wondering if there are any difficulties with the swap...

John,

Since you can place both cars side by side, I think that this will actually be one of the easier swaps.

MBs tend to be set up to take any available driveline as far as the chassis goes, and since both of yours are from the same timeframe, i.e.: post 400E, any changes made to accomodate the 400E should be present in both of your cars.

I would imagine your biggest expense may be to replace specific items to the 606 that were damaged in the wreck, like a radiator that may have different in/out points between turbo and non turbo, but the rad mounts will be the same.

Jim
