Can't remove plug from switch
I got the broken ignition switch out of the 240D, but now I can't pull the wire plug out of the back. I did this job on the 300D a number of years ago and I didn't have that problem. Is the wire plug keyed into the switch somehow and does it have to be in a certain position to pull it out? I certainly am looking for ideas on this one. I can't believe how much I have pulled on that plug and just no movement.

Well, I finally got it apart
I could not pull it apart. So with the Dremel tool, I first cut through the three screws. I still couldn't get it loose, so I finally cut the little can it sits in, right in half. It still wanted to stick to what was the lower half, and it looks to me like in days gone by some oil bypassed the vacuum shut off and got into the switch. It was still somewhat oily, but it seems like along the edge of the "can", it had turned to a varnish type glue. Oh that was a mean job getting that thing apart. It made for a difficult day.

To remove the electrical plug from the ignition switch, is the same as removing the tumbler. insert key, turn to position 2. insert the paperclip in the little hole in the tumbler.
pull off the plug. no need for a Dremel. Charlie

Well, I tried that also
I didn't have the lock or key and didn't want to put a new one in because it was pretty beat up, but I did push in on that move able tab back in there, I did that a number of times, but with no results

You actually have to rotate the lock assembly a position or two, since the back end of the part that the tumbler links to, where you found the tab, has a 'T' that locks the electrical connector into the switch housing.
Once you see one disassembled, you'll see what's going on, but that doesn't help much while trying to disassemble it!
