new "results"
I was able to get my 86' 300 SDL (603)
to idle higher on WD-40 sprayed into the intake!!! I will run down all it IS doing I am getting fuel to the pre-filter (I see it flowing into it) My lift pump is new and working (old one was working too! wanna buy it?) I by passed the fuel termastat all new fuel lines in engine bay to and from filter ect. new+balanced injectors it is getting air exhaust is not plugged and all the other things posted previously (this is just a recap) So I am getting enough fuel to start the car and it idles fine but falls on it's face (no RPM rise more than about 100 no matter how much throttle I give it) But It will rise in RPM if I feed it fuel into the intake and move throttle linkage by hand as I squirt fuel in!!! as a side note engine doesn't really like WD-40 as a fuel but it worked so that's all that really matters results speak volumes! So I need advise should I buy an injection pump? should I buy a used one for $450? My school of thought is I have one why not get the one I have fixed? Is this something I can take off and put new one on if I get a used one? I am not "HIGHLY SKILLED" but I am not "HIGHLY STUPID" just ignorant! but I am willing to learn Anybody know somewhere I can buy a good I.P. for a 603.xxx or a rebuilt and swap my core? |

You can change the injection pump yourself. I believe I would make some effort to find a used pump at less than 450.00. Even try advertising on our parts section of the forum. Theres got to be lots of junk 603s sitting.
Anything more than a hundred for a used pump make sure they gaurantee it is good or your money back. I like a used pump just removed from an engine over one that has been sitting around. Also you might describe the problem to an injection pump place and get a reasonable quote on just repairing the one issue with no recalabration if possible. I think your internal problem is more of a mechanical issue of some sort. At this point I do not know if checking out your existing pump or at least trying to soak it is worth attempting. The rack is either partially stuck or something has let go to or from the govenor feed. If you can see an inspection panel on that pump and it is accesable you might have a look. Fortunatly for you there is a cheap timing lock tool for your models pump. So simply following instructions will get the injection pump into place again without much hassel. Somebody in an earlier post made mention of removing the shutoff valve and checking the rack. I do not know enough myself to comment on the validity of that. They may have experience so you could drop them a note to find out. Last edited by barry123400; 04-15-2010 at 07:15 PM. |

I did remove the shut off and looked in there
but I don't know what I am looking at or for? I did call a bosch service center about 50 miles away they don't rebuild I.P.'s? maybe just dishwashers and drills or maybe my bosch power box radio ha! but they did refer me to triangle diesel "it might be $1000-1500" I said I'll let you know!!! You said about $100 for a used one hell I'll buy three!! Nothing is too good for my benz (or my dog Rizzo) I'm single and have no kids so this car gets all the good stuff but I don't want to over pay you know being unemployed and all I'll look around on this site but I want to move pretty fast it's been sitting too long I am itchin' too drive it! |
