Tranny fluid change
Did my wife's trans fluid change this morning. Couple good things, couple bad.First the good. If you can believe it the torque converter drain plug, just happened to be about 1/4 inch "off". The bad news... I had to adjust the power steering belt before I could turn the motor that last .25, damn. Had to go get the book..and do the drill and adjust the PS belt so I could turn the motor. Took off the pan, drained. The plug on the torque converter was REALLY tight. I used a lever on the allen. It popped so hard when it let go I thought it broke off the allen. Drained all the fluid. The filter installed but seemed a little reluctant, I worried about the fit, although it did bolt on. The REALLY bad news, is that I ordered the kit, power washed the tranny pan, let it sun dry.................and the dam* gasket was WRONG!!!!!!!! Check the shape before you start. The filter seems to be the same, but the pan gasket can be different. Luckily the dealer had the proper gasket. This may have been my mistake, however, this is the second time I faced a part I ordered online, that was not correct. I purchased an OEM fliter and gasket at the dealer for..gasp..61.00 out the door. I HAD to check the filter I had, so ate the 50 bucks, the pan gasket was cheap. Looks like the filter is the same across 84/85 .I used the new full synthetic Dex atfer a long drain time. Seems just fine.I'll be doing my 85 TD in the morning, IF the pan gasket shape matches that I now have two of. Will use the expensive OEM fliter,I'm sure going to figure out whether I made the ordering mistake. This isn't the first time I've received the wrong part through mail order. Damn, I'll pay whatever I have to, I want a job DONE, wtf if you "save" "nine hundred bucks" if you haven't the stuff you need. I had to clean up, get in the car, go to the dealer, get the CORRECT part, drive home, get my dirty clothes back on.... Heck, I'd give 50 bucks..more.. to avoid that...Hmm wrong gasket, while you are lying on the floor....Guy says.....I'll use magic for 100 bucks, to change that into the proper gasket........ I'd a ripped out what was left in my wallet....AND GAVE IT TO HIM. If the gasket in the mailorder kit doesn't fit my TD in the morning, then I know, for me, mail order parts are no longer an option. My wife has the TD now, since I was working on hers.I'll let y'all know how the full syth dex goes, and if the pan gasket fits.

I had a problem getting the right gasket for the 85 300d. got the kit, and the gasket was wrong.
Looked on line, and Fast Lane showed a different gasket with the kit. so did some searching with different years. found out the 86 190D uses the same one the 85 300D uses. so i guess MB made a change in 85 for some reason. don`t know if it is a Calif model or Fed also. top picture is the 85 300D and bottom is the 86 190D same as the 85 300D Charlie
