Hi Guys, This is my first transmission fluid change and I'd like to know the wrench size and type of the following items: 1) Transmission Drain plug 2) Torque converter drain plug 3) Oil pan bolts or screws 4) Filter bolts or screws Any other info/tips will be appreciated. Thank you. |

Drain plugs: 5mm allen
6 Pan bolts: 13MM Filter screws: 3 Phillips Make sure you lay the pan directly under the tranny once you take it off, there will be quite a bit of fluid still dripping from the valve body. Also when you take the filter off, there is still like a quart of fluid in there. John |

Thanks John,
Very useful info. I'll post how everything goes. It seems to be a messy procedure...but heck..I don't trust the guys at the lube places. Kefer |

bump the starter a few times to get the torque converter drain plug to line up over the grid so you can drain that as well. When you're done, and start the car, move the shifter through all positions, leaving in each for a few seconds.

refill carefully. there are posts (do a search) that explain right way to check level. too much or too little are both bad.
don't overtighten pan as it will cause leaks. make sure everything is squeaky clean....no foreign matter in transmission at all. small particles can apparently damage it. good luck and wear a full body latex suit cause the fluid will be everywhere before you are done. Nic 300CD |

couple more pointers
get a little push button starter button switch with two leads with clamps....turn key on and attach push button clamps to contacts on pass. side front wheel hump....now, you want to drain when warm, so if you bump the starter while you are in car, you may start it....what you do is push down on "stop" lever on engine, and use heavy wire to hold linkage in that position....prevents fuel delivery and prevents car from starting...then you can bump starter while under the car.
done do the job when its windy (in your driveway)....I did that once in march and came close to haveing all kinds of dirt, sand, dead leaves etc. blow under the car and up into the transmission when pan was off....VERY BAD!! When removing filter...held in by three phillips screws...use good screwdriver (not worn) very positive pressure on screws and remove each screw in one strong motion...you dont want to strip the head on these screws, and you dont want your screwdriver to jump off screw and damage something!! Overall, very simple, but yes it is messy.....put down newspapers good luck, mark
